Your Questions, Answered
Everything you need to know before you register with SafePlay — from how exclusion works to what happens after.
No. Once your self-exclusion is active, it cannot be reversed before the chosen period ends. This is intentional — the system is designed to hold firm even when you feel the urge to gamble. The only exception is if you chose the "permanent" option, which has a formal review process after 5 years.
Absolutely not. Your registration with SafePlay is completely confidential. Only licensed gambling operators enrolled in the registry receive a flag on your identity — and only for the purpose of blocking you from gambling. No employer, family member, or third party has access to your exclusion status.
Registered operators are legally required to block your account, reject your registration, and refuse any bets. If you win any money during an exclusion period due to operator error, those winnings may be forfeited under LSLGA regulations. Operators that fail to enforce exclusions face regulatory penalties.
Yes. SafePlay is an LSLGA-backed public service and is completely free for all users. There are no registration fees, monthly charges, or hidden costs. The platform is funded by regulatory levies on licensed gambling operators in Lagos State.
Your exclusion is typically activated within 24 hours of registration. All enrolled operators receive a system notification and are required to action it immediately. Online platforms usually enforce the block within hours; retail locations may take up to 48 hours to update their systems.
SafePlay covers all gambling operators licensed by the Lagos State Lotteries & Gaming Authority (LSLGA). This includes all major betting sites, apps, casinos, and retail shops operating in Lagos State. Unlicensed or offshore operators outside LSLGA jurisdiction are not covered.
SafePlay offers five exclusion periods: 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and Permanent. We recommend choosing the longest period you feel comfortable with — you can always choose to maintain your exclusion after it ends.
You need your National Identification Number (NIN), a valid phone number, and a working email address. The entire registration process takes less than 5 minutes. Your NIN is used solely for identity verification across operators — it is never shared with third parties.
