By using SafePlay, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully before registering for our self-exclusion service.
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SafePlay self-exclusion registry ("the Service"), operated under the regulatory oversight of the Lagos State Lotteries & Gaming Authority (LSLGA). By accessing the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
Acceptance of Terms
By registering with SafePlay or otherwise using our platform, you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms in full, you must not use the SafePlay service.
We reserve the right to update or amend these Terms at any time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email or prominent notice on the platform. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
These Terms were last updated in March 2026. If you registered before this date, please review the changes carefully. The most current version of these Terms is always available at safeplay.ng/terms-of-use.
Eligibility
To register and use the SafePlay self-exclusion service, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must hold a valid Nigerian National Identification Number (NIN).
- You must be registering voluntarily of your own free will — not on behalf of another person without their explicit consent.
- You must not already have an active self-exclusion registration under the same NIN.
SafePlay is available to anyone who gambles on platforms licensed and regulated by the LSLGA, regardless of where they reside. By registering, you confirm that you meet these eligibility requirements.
The Service
SafePlay is a centralized self-exclusion registry that enables individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from all gambling operators licensed and regulated by the LSLGA in Lagos State. The Service is provided free of charge to all eligible users.
What the Service does
- Registers your self-exclusion request and verifies your identity via NIN.
- Notifies all enrolled LSLGA-licensed gambling operators of your exclusion status.
- Maintains your exclusion record for the duration of your chosen period.
- Provides access to support resources and counselling referrals during your exclusion.
What the Service does not do
- SafePlay does not cover unlicensed, offshore, or informal gambling operators not enrolled in the LSLGA registry.
- SafePlay cannot prevent you from accessing gambling services on platforms outside its jurisdiction.
- SafePlay does not provide financial, legal, or therapeutic advice.
Important: If you encounter a licensed operator that continues to allow you to gamble during your active exclusion, you should report this to the LSLGA immediately. Operators that violate exclusion requirements face regulatory penalties.
Registration & Account
To access the Service, you must complete the registration process and provide accurate, truthful, and complete information. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
Your responsibilities
- You must provide your real name, date of birth, valid NIN, and accurate contact information.
- You must notify SafePlay promptly if your contact details change.
- You must not share your account credentials with any other person.
- You must not attempt to register more than once using different details to circumvent an active exclusion.
Providing false or misleading information during registration may result in immediate termination of your account and may be reported to the LSLGA and relevant authorities.
Self-Exclusion Terms
By registering for self-exclusion, you acknowledge and agree to the following conditions.
Exclusion periods
SafePlay offers the following self-exclusion durations: 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, and Permanent. You must select one period at the time of registration.
Irrevocability
Once your exclusion is active, it cannot be cancelled, reversed, or shortened at your request before the chosen period ends. This is a deliberate design feature to protect your wellbeing. The system is designed to hold firm even if you later feel the urge to gamble.
Permanent exclusion
If you select the Permanent exclusion option, a formal review process is available after 5 years have elapsed. Any request to lift a permanent exclusion will be subject to review by the LSLGA and may require documentation of your circumstances.
Winnings during exclusion
Please note: If you successfully place a bet or win any amount during an active exclusion period due to an operator's failure to enforce the exclusion, those winnings may be forfeited under LSLGA regulations. SafePlay and its operators are not liable for paying such winnings.
Renewal after exclusion
Upon the natural expiry of a non-permanent exclusion period, you will be notified. You may choose to renew your exclusion, register a new exclusion period, or allow the exclusion to lapse. SafePlay recommends continuing your exclusion if you are still in recovery.
User Obligations
As a user of the SafePlay service, you agree to use the platform responsibly and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:
- Use the Service for any fraudulent, unlawful, or deceptive purpose.
- Attempt to access, tamper with, or disrupt the SafePlay platform or its infrastructure.
- Register on behalf of another person without their explicit, informed consent.
- Attempt to circumvent, bypass, or manipulate your exclusion in any way.
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the platform.
- Upload or transmit any malicious code, viruses, or harmful content.
- Impersonate any person or entity in connection with your use of the Service.
Any breach of these obligations may result in immediate suspension of your account and referral to the LSLGA or relevant law enforcement authorities.
Limitation of Liability
SafePlay provides this service in good faith and in accordance with LSLGA regulatory requirements. However, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SafePlay and its operators, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for:
- Any gambling activity that occurs outside of LSLGA-licensed and enrolled operators.
- Any failure by an individual gambling operator to enforce your exclusion in a timely manner, provided SafePlay has fulfilled its notification obligations.
- Any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
- Any loss of winnings incurred during an active exclusion period.
- Temporary unavailability of the platform due to maintenance, technical issues, or circumstances beyond our control.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Nigerian law.
Intellectual Property
All content on the SafePlay platform — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, icons, images, and software — is the property of SafePlay or its licensors and is protected under applicable intellectual property laws.
- You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any SafePlay content without express written permission.
- The SafePlay name, logo, and branding are registered trademarks and may not be used without prior written consent.
- You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the platform solely for its intended purpose — registering for and managing your self-exclusion.
Termination
SafePlay reserves the right to suspend or terminate your access to the platform at any time, without notice, if we have reasonable grounds to believe that:
- You have breached any provision of these Terms.
- You have provided false or fraudulent information during registration.
- Your account has been used for unlawful purposes.
- Continued access poses a risk to the integrity or security of the platform.
Termination of your platform access does not invalidate an active self-exclusion. Your exclusion record will remain in the registry and continue to be enforced by enrolled operators for the duration of your chosen exclusion period.
Governing Law
These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the applicable regulations of the Lagos State Lotteries & Gaming Authority.
Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria. If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
