Privacy Policy
SafePlay is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user.
This Privacy Policy applies to SafePlay, a centralized gambling self-exclusion registry operated under the oversight of the Lagos State Lotteries & Gaming Authority (LSLGA). By registering with SafePlay, you agree to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.
Data Collection & Usage
We collect only the information necessary to provide our self-exclusion service effectively. We do not collect data beyond what is required for this purpose.
Information we collect
- Identity data: Full name, date of birth, gender, and National Identification Number (NIN).
- Contact data: Email address and mobile phone number.
- Exclusion preferences: Chosen exclusion duration and registration date.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, and access timestamps (collected automatically for security purposes).
How we use your data
| Purpose | Legal Basis |
|---|---|
| Verifying your identity and processing your self-exclusion registration | Performance of a service / legal obligation |
| Notifying enrolled gambling operators of your exclusion status | Performance of a service |
| Sending confirmation and status notifications to you | Legitimate interest / consent |
| Maintaining exclusion records for regulatory compliance | Legal obligation (LSLGA) |
| Improving platform security and detecting fraudulent activity | Legitimate interest |
We do not use your personal data for marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the self-exclusion registry.
NIN Data Handling
Your National Identification Number is the most sensitive piece of information we collect. We treat it with the highest level of security and apply strict controls around its use.
How your NIN is used
- Your NIN is used solely to verify your identity and cross-reference your exclusion status with enrolled gambling operators.
- It is never displayed in full to any operator. Operators receive only a confirmation of exclusion status, not your raw NIN data.
- NIN data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption and transmitted only over secure, encrypted channels (TLS 1.2 or higher).
- Access to NIN data is restricted to authorised SafePlay personnel only, under strict access controls and audit logging.
NIN storage and retention
Your NIN is retained for the duration of your active exclusion period and for a mandatory post-exclusion retention period of 12 months as required by LSLGA regulations. After this period, your NIN data is permanently deleted from our systems unless you have requested an earlier deletion (subject to regulatory obligations).
Important: SafePlay does not share, sell, or transfer your NIN to any third party outside of the LSLGA-approved exclusion verification process. Any unauthorised use of NIN data would constitute a serious breach of Nigerian data protection law.
Third-Party Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We share data only in the limited circumstances described below.
Who we share data with
- Licensed gambling operators: Only your exclusion status and the minimum identifying information required to enforce your exclusion. Operators cannot access your full profile, NIN, or contact details.
- Lagos State Lotteries & Gaming Authority (LSLGA): Aggregated and anonymised compliance data, or individual records when required by regulatory order.
- Technology service providers: We use vetted third-party providers for hosting, security, and platform infrastructure. All providers are contractually bound to process data only on our instructions and in accordance with NDPR.
- Law enforcement or courts: Only when legally compelled by a valid court order or statutory obligation under Nigerian law.
What we never do
- We never share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.
- We never allow operators to use your data for any purpose other than exclusion enforcement.
- We never transfer your data outside Nigeria without appropriate safeguards in place.
Your Rights & Data Deletion
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and applicable Lagos State data governance frameworks, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data.
